Online stopwatch

Start timing from zero, pause and resume, and record lap times as you go. The display shows minutes, seconds and hundredths, adding hours when needed.

Copy your lap times before resetting or leaving. This page does not save the session for later.

Lap times

Select Lap while the stopwatch is running to record a lap time.

Lap time or total time?

Lap time measures the interval since the previous lap. Total time measures all running time up to that lap. If your first lap takes 30 seconds and the next takes 25, the second lap's total is 55 seconds. Time spent paused is excluded.

Keep a copy before resetting

Copy lap times and paste them into a note or spreadsheet. Resetting, refreshing or closing this page clears the current session.

Keep the device awake

When you return from another tab, the elapsed time updates. Keep the screen on and avoid locking the device or putting it to sleep while timing.

Want a reminder after a set duration? Use the countdown timer.

Compare Lap Times and Keep Your Results

Pause without adding the break to your time

Use the stopwatch when you want to find out how long something takes, such as a practice presentation or a series of short exercises. Select Start when you begin and Pause when you stop. Resume continues from the same elapsed time; the time spent paused is excluded.

Reset becomes available after you pause. It clears both the elapsed time and every lap in the current session. Copy any results you want to keep before resetting.

Read lap time and total time together

Select Lap while timing to record the interval since the previous lap. The first lap starts at zero. Total time is the elapsed running time from the start up to that lap. Recording a lap does not stop or restart the stopwatch.

For example, suppose one practice round takes 30 seconds and the next takes 25. Lap 2 shows a lap time of 00:25.00 and a total time of 00:55.00. Use lap time to compare the two rounds; use total time to see how long both took. If you pause between rounds, that break is left out of both figures.

The newest lap appears at the top of the table. You can record up to 100 laps. After that, the stopwatch keeps running but does not add more lap records. Very quick repeated clicks may not create a new lap if they fall within the same displayed hundredth of a second.

Copy the records before clearing them

Copy lap times places a tab-separated table on your system clipboard, including the column headings. The copied rows run from the first lap to the last, even though the on-screen table shows the newest first. Paste into a note or spreadsheet and check that all the rows you need are there.

If automatic copying fails, select the visible table and copy it manually. Resetting, refreshing or closing this page clears the session; there is no saved history to reopen. Copies you have pasted elsewhere remain under the control of that app or device.

Use full screen for a clearer view

Full screen is available when the browser supports it. It enlarges the timing area without changing the timing or lap records. If the browser refuses full screen, continue in the current window.

The stopwatch stops at 99:59:59.99. Copy the records and reset before beginning another session. The hundredths display helps compare intervals, but it does not make the browser or the moment you press a button accurate to one hundredth of a second. This is a general-purpose stopwatch, not certified timing equipment.

Keep the page open and the device awake

When you switch back from another tab, the display updates to the elapsed time. Browsers can reduce background updates, and device sleep or locking can affect timing behavior. Keep the screen on for a session you need to observe closely.

This stopwatch has no finish alarm or countdown. If you need a reminder after a fixed duration, use the countdown timer. Neither tool should be the only reminder for something where missing the time could cause harm.
